Frequently asked questions

How is the US import duty on my product calculated?
Duty combines the base HTS rate (general column) with any applicable Chapter 99 additional duties (Section 301, IEEPA, reciprocal tariffs). Duty uses the latest USITC HTS export and is reconciled against Federal Register notices. CBP makes the binding determination at entry.
Does Duty evaluate antidumping (AD) or countervailing (CVD) duties?
Not by default. AD/CVD and product-specific exclusions require case-by-case review. Duty surfaces Chapter 99 and standard column rates; AD/CVD must be evaluated separately.
Where does the tariff data come from?
Base rates and HTS descriptions come from the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) export. Policy changes and Section 301/IEEPA actions come from the Federal Register. Every computed rate can be traced back to its source record.
Can I compare origins like Vietnam, Mexico, India against China?
Yes. The compare view evaluates the same HS code against a configurable list (default: CN, VN, MX, IN, TH, ID, KR, JP, HK, DE, TW, MY, BD, CA), applying each country-specific Chapter 99 overlay.
